The beautiful Evening Primrose plant, originates from North America and has been used by herbalists for centuries.  The decorative Starflower herb, on the other hand, was cultivated in the Middle East during the middle ages.

The key feature of both these plants stems from their unusually high content of a particular essential fatty acids, called Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA).  GLA is important to health because it is a vital link in a chain through which our bodies produce prostaglandins, a group of substances which affect different biological processes including hormone balance.

As such, many women like to take these GLA-rich oils prior to and during their periods as they can help to maintain a natural hormone balance.  These food also help to maintain healthy skin and supple joints.
