Keeping your fussy eater healthy

Don’t stress! It’s possible to meet all your child’s nutritional needs – no matter how picky they are at mealtime

Kids are notoriously fussy eaters. If they’re not refusing to eat their vegetables then they’re dropping them all over the floor. Which makes it tricky to ensure they’re getting the right nutrients for optimal growth. And yet the early years are a crucial time for your child’s physical and mental development; which is why making sure they receive the right nutrition is incredibly important. That’s the theory, anyway. Of course the reality is far more of a challenge – particularly when your little one won’t eat anything but chips and jam sandwiches. As a parent, it’s natural to worry about your children’s health. Rather than get stressed at mealtimes, however – kids feed off anxiety, after all – giving your child a nutritional supplement can help bring extra peace of mind. Cod liver oil, for example, is a rich source of omega-3 oils, essential fatty acids that have been shown to contribute to healthy brain development and even aid concentration. A multivitamin and mineral supplement can also be a good idea to ensure your child is getting all the nutrients they need for healthy bones (vitamin D and calcium), eyes (vitamin A), skin (zinc), energy levels (B vitamins and magnesium) and a strong immune system (vitamin C). Choose a supplement that comes in a pleasant-tasting syrup or chewable pastille (‘Mmm, sweeties’), and you won’t have to worry about anyone refusing to eat them. Sadly, we can’t say the same about that broccoli…
