There are thousands of products on the market for maintaining beautiful hair, skin and nails. However, the basic building blocks for keeping these beautiful can be provided naturally by eating a healthy, vitamin-rich diet.
Protein, Protein and More Protein
Like our muscles, our hair, skin and nails are all made of protein. Therefore, your diet should always have enough of it to ensure they always look beautiful. Complete proteins, which contain all eight essential amino acids,
are basically food which is sourced from animals: meat, poultry, fish, milk, cheese, eggs, etc. Protein-rich foods which don't come from animals, like nuts, peas and beans, do not contain all of the essential amino acids, and are known as incomplete proteins. Vegetarians and vegans can get all the essential amino acids their bodies need by pairing grains, nuts and seeds with legumes over the course of a day to form complete proteins.
The Skin
Here are a few interesting facts about your body's coat – the skin.
-The skin is the largest and fast-growing organ of the body. (American Academy of Dermatology, https://www.aad.org/public/kids/skin)
-The skin is the most heavily influenced by external factors, due to it being our body's first line of defence against outside elements.
-It is also possibly one of the very first things people notice about you (besides hair perhaps) and where the first visible signs of ageing appear. Therefore, maintaining healthy, radiant skin is essential to looking your youngest as you age.
The Nails
Zinc also supports the maintenance of normal nails (see previous section for foods containing zinc). And let’s not forget about calcium. Dairy products, sardines, salmon and tofu all provide ample amounts of calcium.
So whenever you want to look good on the outside, start by monitoring what your body has on the inside. This will help you look beautiful the natural way.
