Exercise and your teenager
At a time when your child’s body and mind is growing and developing at such a rapid rate, the pressures from school and from life also increase. So if there were ever a time to have a healthy diet, lots of sleep and regular exercise, this would be it.
Ahh…we’re forgetting it’s teenagers we’re talking about here. They love slouching on sofas, staying up late, getting up late and eating junk food don’t they? Well, some do and some don’t. If you’ve got a sporty child you probably don’t need to worry so much about how active they are. But if you’ve got a teenager who does very little activity, you’re right to want to do something to help.
Outward laziness can come with the territory of the teen years. So it may be difficult to get them to change, but it really is worth it. During this time children gain around 23cm in height and 20-26kg in weight, so keeping fit and healthy is essential to helping them feel good about themselves.
Any exercise within reason is good exercise; walking, cycling and swimming are good places to start. If your teenager is resistant to exercise, it may be you have to dress it up in the guise of a cool activity. So you might suggest offering to pay for skateboarding or snowboarding lessons.

Girls need iron
Girls especially need iron as they can be prone to lower iron levels once their periods start. If you think their diet may be lacking iron, consider giving them a multivitamin.
Eating habits can become a bit of a worry – try making mealtimes a family thing, get in the kitchen, get the kids involved to create a dish together and nurture their enthusiasm for delicious foods
